Severn Trent Water has funded the Trent Rivers Trust to employ a dedicated Catchment Officer in the Tittesworth catchment to work with farmers to support them to use pesticides more responsibly.
Prior to the commencement of the project, sampling of the water in Tittesworth reservoir showed the presence of unacceptably high levels of pesticide residues. Since Adrian Rochford started work as the Catchment Officer for Tittesworth, levels of pesticides in the water have been consistently lower.
Adrian works closely with farmers in the catchment to help them improve their soil management and to consider timing, application method and disposal when applying pesticides. He helps farmers to apply to the Severn Trent Environmental Protection (STEPs) scheme for capital works which will help to improve water quality.
The Trent Rivers Trust works with Adrian to organise farm walks and meetings in the catchment on related topics such as weed control, soil management and water protection. Events are always well attended and feedback is extremely positive.
