The Soar Tribs project, Burton Brook, addressed rural diffuse pollution issues (phosphate and nitrate run-off from agriculture) and created storm water storage opportunities on the Burton Brook, Burton Overy, Leicestershire.
The scheme included a large (250 cubic metre capacity) flood water storage bund, six leaky barriers and a significant bank re-profiling to also increase in-channel storage. We installed 500 metres of riparian stock proof fencing, coupled with a formal cattle drinking bay, to keep livestock out of the watercourse and planted of 170 native trees to improve riparian habitat and provide further flood resilience.
The works were completed within three weeks and special care was taken to protect and respect a Local Wildlife Site (LWS) that occupied the same field.
